Jody Thompson, author of Why Managing Sucks and How to Fix It, argues that effective leaders manage work, not people. Let go of office hours and focus on results.
In last week’s webinar, “Creating a Culture of Employee Engagement,” we heard from Christopher Rice and Mary Ann Masarech, two authors of The Engagement Equation: Leadership Strategies for an Inspired Workforce. This Human Resources Executive webinar, sponsored by Achievers, delivered actionable advice for creating a corporate culture that enables engagement.

What are you doing for your employees to show that you value them and their contributions this year? Last year, Achievers participated in this flashmob!
Here are some easy ideas to show your employees in a cheap and cheerful way how much you value them:
- – Handwritten notes
- – Complimentary breakfast or lunch
- – Take your team out for lunch
- – Host a First-Round Friday
- – Call a company or department meeting and genuinely thank your employees
- – At a department meeting, let the team know how each person personally contributed to success
- – Let employees leave a few hours early
- – Leave a treat on your employees’ desks
- – Play music in the morning as employees come into work
- – Take a team photo and email it to everyone
Human Resources Professionals go head-to-head to prove who is better at engaging their staff through their rewards and recognition program. Who will come out on top? Check back next Wednesday to find out!

“Location, location, location!” This coined phrase may seem overused, but when it comes to business, your office coordinates are always significant. Studies show that where your company is located has a large impact on a number of items that could affect your success. Particularly, when it comes to first impressions, not only are prospective and current customers influenced by your business’ location, but your prospective and current employees may also be partial to your company based on what they find on Google Maps.→ Read More

When you’re happy, you smile.
When you’re sad, you cry.

We all know what defines a SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound) goal. We apply this methodology to business goals, but for some reason when we hear ‘personal goals’, logic goes out the window. If any of your personal goals or New Year’s Resolutions included…
- Win the lottery
- Get married and have two children this year
- Start a goat farm
- Have an office of unlimited ice sculptures (one melts, another one in)
…you may need to re-evaluate.→ Read More
