    CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System is a non-profit, faith-based health system based in Texarkana, Texas, featuring a 311-bed acute care hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, and a freestanding emergency center.

    Challenge

    The CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System provides quality and compassionate care to those they serve in an operationally successful manner. As part of the CHRISTUS Health organization (a national health system with more than 30,000 associates), the CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System of Texarkana, TX employs 1,799 associates — 95 percent of whom work offline.

    The organization needed a recognition solution that would:

    • Support real-time rewards and recognition
    • Be used by on- and offline employees
    • Enable social recognition to help increase business alignment and boost engagement

    Solution

    CHRISTUS St. Michael partnered with Achievers to launch its recognition program, KABOOOM. The Achievers platform helped CHRISTUS build a program that emphasizes:

    • Social and points-based recognition
    • A modern “Years of Service” awards program
    • Several other programs designed to engage, align, and recognize the organization’s associates

    Results

    CHRISTUS St. Michael also saw associate engagement as a result of leadership recognition jump from 66% to 77%.

     

    Prior to partnering with Achievers, CHRISTUS St. Michael experienced an annualized turnover rate of 13.8 percent. The year after launching KABOOOM, the annualized turnover rate shrunk to an impressive 6.4 percent – significantly lower than the industry standard of 19.6 percent.

    Based on the success of the KABOOOM program, the Achievers platform has since been adopted by 12 other U.S.-based CHRISTUS health regions.
